BBQ Steak

The robust tenors and notes of red wine are accentuated by barbecuing steak. The smoky nuances from the grill harmonize with the wine’s depth, enhancing its complexity. The searing process caramelizes the steak’s exterior, introducing savory undertones that complement the wine’s bold flavors, creating a symphony of taste that elevates both elements.

Ingredients:

    For the BBQ Steak:

    • 2 boneless ribeye or sirloin steaks (about 8-10 ounces each)
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
    • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

    For the Mashed Potatoes:

    • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
    • 1/2 cup milk or cream
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste
    • Chopped fresh chives or parsley for garnish

    For the Veggies:

    • 2 cups mixed vegetables (e.g., broccoli, carrots, and green beans)
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

For the BBQ Steak:
        1. Preheat the Grill or Pan:
          Preheat your grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
        2. Season and Marinate the Steak:
          • Season the steaks with salt and black pepper.
          • In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey (or maple syrup), and Dijon mustard.
          • Marinate the steaks in this mixture for at least 30 minutes.
        3. Grill the Steak:
          • Grill the steaks for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or adjust the cooking time based on your desired doneness.
          • Let the steaks rest for a few minutes before slicing.
        For the Mashed Potatoes:
              1. Boil Potatoes:
                • Boil the peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender.
              2. Mash Potatoes:
                • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
                • Mash the potatoes with butter, milk (or cream), salt, and black pepper until smooth and creamy.
              3. Garnish:
                • Garnish the mashed potatoes with chopped fresh chives or parsley.
              For the Veggies:
                    1. Prepare Vegetables:
                      • Steam or blanch the mixed vegetables until they are crisp-tender.
                    2. Sauté Vegetables:
                      • Heat olive oil in a pan and sauté the vegetables for a few minutes until they are lightly caramelized.
                      • Season with salt and black pepper.
                    Serve:
                          • Arrange sliced BBQ steak on a plate alongside a generous serving of creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies.
                          • Optionally, drizzle any leftover marinade from the steak over the top for extra flavor.
